Summary

I learned that there are many different creditable databases that are available to the public. Not just Wikipedia and Gale Virtual Reference Library (GVRL), but hundreds if not thousands of places or sites that anyone can find articles and information about any topic they desire. Wikipedia is more a mesh of information on a particular topic, while I felt GVRL was more information that was article based that was written and published. I'm not trying to devalue the information on Wikipedia, because there is a lot of very good information that is easily found on that site, but sometimes you can't always be sure that Wikipedia is 100% accurate. I thought some of the things on Wikipedia were very interesting, in regards to the internet. Some of those topics I've never really put any thought into. For example, the impact the internet has on society, as well as the important things that we use the internet for. The internet is for much more than just browsing for information when bored, it does a lot more than most people probably think. I believe it is a very important part to everyday living, not just locally, but globally across the entire world.

Three Research Questions

Three questions that came to my mind from the topic of "Internet."
1. What social impacts does the Internet have on us?
2. What modern uses do we have for the internet?
3. Does the internet have positive or negative benefits on society?

Open Web Search Wikipedia

In Wikipedia I used the same topic of "Internet." Wikipedia offers a lot of information on this very vague topic. Some keywords were history, technology, and modern uses. It even goes over the social impact it has on our society which I thought was interesting.

Deep Web Search GVRL

The topic I chose was "Internet." I used the Gale Virtual Reference Library (GVRL) as a tool in my research. The GVRL was available to me through the Clark College website, under the Library tab. While searching for "Internet," there were some keywords I was able to stumble upon. Computer, internet, virus, hackers, software, hardware, world wide web, HTTP, net, Google, Facebook, Yahoo, Comcast, Ethernet, router, and modem just to name a few. The particular article I found interesting was called "Internet" by Judson Knight.  The source was the Encyclopedia of Espionage, Intelligence and Security. The article was published by Lee Lerner and Brenda Wilmoth Lerner. Pages 140-143.

First Blog

I'd like to think I have a bit of experience using the internet for research. To be honest, I can probably say that I rely on the internet for all my research needs. I can't remember the last time I opened a thesaurus, encyclopedia, or anything of the like to find information. As far as Web 2.0, I'm not too familiar with, I've never really made blogs in my spare time, besides Facebook, and social media sites. When it comes to Web 2.0 I feel that I have a lot to learn, and I'm looking forward to learning more!
